Ummmm. Parts is not parts. Intel is known for its linux support in their nics and wireless cards. Additionally, they offer better life than 3com at all levels (end-user, corporate enterprise, etc.). Also, it's quite possible he already had the modules for intel nics enabled and others not. There are many reasons for requesting certain hardware, and I think it's silly to go into a diatribe on why or why not they chose them. People are allowed to have their preferences. :) Back on topic, I may have a couple intel nics lying around. Did you have any particular preference as to model?
