[PLUG] odd xephyr behavior

Hi, I am trying to use xephyr to run kde4.1 in a nested x-window.  I had it working once before and shut it down by closing the nested window.  Now it won't start back up.  I am getting the following error:

michael@Akira:/$ Xephyr :1 -extension GLX &

Xephyr cannot open host display. Is DISPLAY set?
[1] 7659
[1]+  Exit 1                  Xephyr :1 -extension GLX

What is going on?
