[PLUG] Recent ubuntu updates and authentication

Starting today, two Ubuntu machines seem to have acquired the same bad habit.
One is Ubuntu 8.10, and the other is Kubuntu 8.04.1. When I enter my
password to log in or unlock the screen, I get a message box that says
"Error". That's all it says. I click OK to dismiss it, and everything seems
fine.
Anyone else starting to get this?
