Now that you mention it and I went looking, I do see that right in 
toolbar properties on my Ubuntu 8.10 box.  Cool!

My problem was on Ubuntu 8.04, which has GHOME 2.23.  Since that's LTS I 
suspect I won't be the only person not upgrading it for a while.
