Is he saying you have to use coaxial, or that you have to use ethernet with their router? If he's willing to run ethernet, let him install the router. Make sure he runs an ethernet line, either instead of or as well as coaxial. You want internet over ethernet. Besides that, let him set up the Actiontek to his heart's content. After he's gone, copy down the mac address of the actiontek they installed. Unplug their router, plug in yours. The connection is just dhcp. Change the mac address of your router to be the mac address of the actiontek. If he's telling you he can run nothing but coaxial, he just doesn't want to do it. Maybe he has no cat 5 on his truck, or he's misinformed, or he doesn't know how to couple ethernet.
