I'd be interested in learning why ext3 is a poor choice as well...

Many thanks to PLUGgers for advice configuring my WD Elements 1 TB
drive for backup. I ended up getting it to work by creating a 1 GB
primary partition, and then a 1023 extended partition- then, it
allowed me to rsync the entire contents of my drive to the backup.
I chose to format the external disk as ext3, which I'm told isn't the
best file system to use for the drive. What file format would be
preferable?
