Seems like one could not suddenly decide that something is patented that has
been in the public domain for 25 years.
What I'm waiting for is IBM's response to this. They have a patent
library that could easily go up against MS. The only thing is that the
usual cross-licensing agreement wouldn't work, since
Linux isn't owned by a single company.
