Someone else may be able to give you instructions specific to rhel5, but this should work on most fancy unixy systems upgraded from ye olde x11r6 to xorg.... 1) make a backup of your current xorg.conf. It's usually in /etc/X11/xorg.conf 2) then, run 'Xorg -configure' 3) pray 4) type startx again -Jon 2009/3/19 Ron Kaye <rkaye2@csc.com>: > > never had to troubleshoot x > dont know squat > > rhel 5 on hp dl360,connected to an hp tft5600 kvm > > at the command line, startx > > i get a graphic upper left, settings out of range, > gui comes up, just cant read anything. > > i am guessing, there is an x11 conf file which i can edit to fix the > problem? > am i correct? > > figure a generic 1024x768 , 60MHz setting should suffice. > > i know the philly guys will know > > ron > > This is a PRIVATE message.
