Dear PLUGgers,

Can you recommend a small audio unit, with song display, that doesn't
freak out when repeatedly written to from the USB port of a machine
running Intrepid Ibex, costs less than $80, and has a mean time between
failures greater than four months?

I have a sandisk brand device that has worked great with gnome for over two years now. Its great because Linux just sees the device via usb and I just copy music to it.

The stock sandisk media program does not work with Linux or gnome in general (of course) but I don't really need the stock programs because I can use banshee to sync music to the usb device and vlc totrnscode video if needed (rare).
