[PLUG] Mac OS X Ext2 Filesystem

I am trying to share an external drive between a PPC Mac and K/Ubuntu Linux.  NTFS was frustrating because Kubuntu and OS X 10.5 always thought the FS was dirty.  Ubuntu rarely seemed to have a problem with it, but I got tired of the issue and figured I'd format it ext3 because a Mac-savvy co-worker told me that OS X handled ext3,

It doesn't.  I found this
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ext2fsx/

but it looks like the last stable version was released in 2004, and there is a development version from 2006.

Any better suggestions?
