depends on the modem.

if it's a pass-through, the router has to do the authentication (PPPoE
prolly)- openwrt has an addon that will let you do this (not sure if
default buffalo firmware does or not; never keep it long enough to find
out :)

if the modem handles the authentication, then you shouldn't have any
issues whatsoever.
