Of course not silly :-)  Its the first I've heard about the utility and was just sharing information trying to be part of the community. Isn't that what Linux is all about? Just for the record I don't know everything and have never made that claim. Computer knowledge is a journey, not a destination; you just have to be willing to take it.

I imagine encrypting the system partitions would extremely impair this type of attack; correct?

Also good old fashioned physical access control to servers would as well without the draw backs to encrypting the root filesystem.
