[PLUG] avoiding grub problems

My home computer has 32-bit kubuntu 8.04 installed on a SATA drive. It runs
really well. I have a spare SATA in there and I want to install 64-bit Ubuntu
Studio 9.04 using an alternate install DVD,

How do I insure that there is a single grub that would allow me to boot either
drive/distro?

I'm nervous about it installing another copy of grub that will not allow me to
boot the existing OS.
