Did you get any letters from them admonishing you for high bandwidth useage? Depending on your bandwidth useage they may have just be traffic shaping (tcp RST) the hell out of any inbound traffic. There's tons of compliants about them doing that with p2p traffic these days. With that said it stands to reason that if you were using a lot of b/w, they may have shut you down. I only say all this because I have run many webservers over the years (and still do) on residential comcast connects with no issues. YMMV.. This message was sent from my Treo® wireless handheld device. -----Original Message----- From: Matthew Berlin <arkestra@gmail.com> Sent: Wednesday, August 05, 2009 3:26 PM To: Philadelphia Linux User's Group Discussion List <plug@lists.phillylinux.org> Subject: Re: [PLUG] Hosting on compast Oh, I'm from the Coatesville/Downingtown area. Port 80 was definitely blocked, as well as the standarad ports for serving almost anything (ftp, http, mysql, etc.) cjohnson19791979@gmail.com wrote: > I meant what area in/around philly. ;-) > > > > > > This message was sent from my Treo® wireless handheld device. > > -----Original Message----- > From: Casey Bralla <MailList@nerdworld.org> > Sent: Wednesday, August 05, 2009 4:53 AM > To: <plug@lists.phillylinux.org> > Cc: cjohnson19791979@gmail.com <cjohnson19791979@gmail.com> > Subject: Re: [PLUG] Hosting on compast > > I don;'t remember the details, but I know they filtered web access and eMail > access so I couldn't run either server unless I chose a nonstandard port. > > > On Wednesday August 05, 2009 4:36:27 am cjohnson19791979@gmail.com wrote: > >> Casey.. >> >> In what area did you notice this behavior of port blocking? >> >> >> >> >> >> This message was sent from my Treo® wireless handheld device. >> > > >> Comcast used to not filter, but they started filtering some time last year. >> Some people claim there was a pattern to which IPs they filtered and which >> they ignored, although I was not able to confirm that. >> >> I ended up biting the bullet and getting a dynamic business IP, which has >> been stable enough (only changed once in the last 4 years, unless you >> change NICs). >> >> BTW, fios was less supportive of running a server.
