[PLUG] Recommendations for linux-friendly scanner?

Someone recently posted about Brother having good linux support.
I'm interested in getting a scanner (probably flatbed) for home use, but
I see Brother doesn't offer them, at least in the US (they do have
multifunction machines with inkjet printing).
Anyone had a good experience with a scanner manufacturer?
