McAfee and Symmantec don't even enter into it anymore. besides some archaic brand recognition, I can't figure out why anyone still uses them. they've been obsolete ever since they refused to even acknowledge the existence of malware, as opposed to traditional viruses, because the companies were too afraid of being sued for interfering with "legitimate" software. (IIRC, Gator comes to mind as a company which did precisely that.) so that's circa 2001, at least. hence the rise of superior alternatives such as Kaspersky, which is made by Russian programmers whose jurisdiction means they don't give a care about being "sued", they just want to sell you something that will _actually_ protect you from malware. again, AVS or Avast if you don't want to spend money, and Kaspersky (KIS) if you can afford to spend about $80 for their 3-license deal. ___________________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group -- http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion -- http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
