Re: [PLUG] hydrogen eating CPU on ubuntu studio
|
I added nosmp to the boot options before loading the kernel and it works now. The program is still processor intensive, and is a resource hog on my 2ghz single core amd64 processor, perhaps a processor upgrade is in order. Apparently hydrogen was attempting to do something which required smp. Turning this off before loading the kernel seems to have fixed it.

Just to chime in, I've installed Ubuntu Studio 9 on a Dell E1505 and have been getting solid lockups on updates, not to mention, US is not detecting my hardware with the ease that Ubuntu does. The googlemind seems to think that dropping back to Ubuntu Studio 8 might be the best solution. I haven't had time to do that yet, so I can't say if that would help with your Hydrogen problem. I'm really annoyed that US can't pick up on the wireless card in the Dell. The hard lockups don't thrill me either...

I recently installed Ubuntu Studio on my desktop PC, it's old, it's an AMD64
2 ghz with Ubuntu Studio 64. I have been playing around with the tools and
I'm finding that when I start hydrogen it eats up all my CPU and freezes the
machine. A friend of mine told I should look into CPU scaling, but I looked
it up and it seems CPU scaling is used to limit power the CPU is using.
I'm not sure if this is the right solution since it's a desktop machine and
it does not have a battery. Anyone have any experience with hydrogen and
Ubuntu Studio? I would like to use it but it slows down my machine
immensely. I am using a m-audio audiophile 2496 with ALSA for sound. Any
pointers would be appreciated, thanks.
