There should be a graph/curve that displays the amount of time trying to fix, vs the amount of time to gut & re-install with any Windows products. I figure that if you have spent more than 3 hours, trying to fix it, and haven't gotten any where, you should just re-install it. As the reinstall path will give you a better, more stable result, for a longer term.
