If you notice the default /etc/crontab contains the path of the commands as:

25 6	* * *	root	test -x /usr/sbin/anacron || ( cd / && run-parts
- --report /etc/cron.daily )

I have found that cron does not follow the users path and only executes
internal bash or whatever /bin/sh points to internal commands.
