I just joined because a colleague at work, Randall, cleverly suggested that I post some info about the Next HOPE conference coming up this weekend. (Yes, they thought the last one was truly The Last HOPE, but it turns out that the site, Hotel Penn, didn't get turned into condos because the economy is in the crapper.) I'm part of Hive76 and a stack of us are headed to NYC for the Hackers on Planet Earth conference, sponsored by 2600 magazine. I've been twice before and always been impressed with the quality and quantity of speakers and activities. It's actually a really good bargain, like $85 now, $100 at the door. I'm doing a talk about electronic waste on Friday night. Anyone else doing a talk and feel like getting together to practice?

A bunch of Philly people are going, and Hive76 is helping to setup the Hackerspace Village and a neat OpenAMD project starting this Thursday. If you're up for volunteering, see or or email me and I'll tell you what I know about what's needed.

Also, my sources tell me that PLUG into Hive76 is looking a little anemic these days. I'll talk to folks and find out if anyone at Hive has energy to revive it, but please feel free to get in touch with us if you want to help make it happen. People are really, really busy over there.
