[PLUG] fool the file manager

Running Xubuntu 10.04
All of the sudden, Tuxcmd keeps flashing PLEASE BE PATIENT warnings at me, for no apparent reason. Installed Gnome-Commander, which took over 60 seconds to come up and longer to change directories. Also tried Thunar and Emelfm2.

Is my file system mad at my gui? Why is it taking a long time for any file operation, including display?

According to htop, there is nothing going on.

Thanks.
