I see that you used the Ubuntu LiveCD.  The Gentoo install CD also
supports LVM, and most of the usual partition/install/etc tools.  The
Gentoo CD has the advantage of being small, but the disadvantage of
being small, when compared to the Ubuntu LiveCD.
