I shouldn't be surprised at how helpful and knowledgeable this list is. On this subject, I would like to point out an extremely helpful resource I've come across for Android devices, that allows Samba sharing from the device. (Use the SMB module for the Astro file manager, available in the Market, to access Samba shares from your Android device.) It requires a rooted device and is still in beta:
