Well, if the router doesn't give you the ability to sniff the incoming traffic, then the easiest solution might be to set up a PC to the old IP and then sniff IT'S traffic. Once the router gets the ARP reply you'll probably quickly see a direct connection from whatever other system is trying to reach it.
