Re: [PLUG] Jobs with Work-Life Balance?? |
Any 24/7 system in your environment ?
I manage public facing websites, and I can guarantee you that $boss doesn't care if it's sunday afternoon or monday morning when the database crashes (and he shouldn't). My company is not big enough to have rolling on-calls schedules, so we fix the emergencies when they arise.

I disagree. I am a single admin at a medium sized Civil Engineeringyour

maintain over 2 dozen servers and over 150 desktop units. All a mix of
windows and Linux.
It is possible to have both a work life and a family life and not have
either one cut into the other. It's how you chose to work and manage

Time for a change, it seems.
Sysadmins don't work 40 hours a week, that's bullshit. Maybe you can
manage that in a really big institution, but if you're part of a
small
team, you have to include late hours and occasional week ends.
The real question is: do they compensate you for that ? I find that
working from home is a nice compensation, but that doesn't replace
the
satisfaction of a decent salary.

Hi all,
Sorry, I'm just a little stressed out and need to blow off a
little
steam. Are there any unix/linux admin jobs out there with a good
work
life balance? I've been getting killed in my job for years and
years
now. But, at least, I had the option of working from home once in
a
while and my supervisor was a little flexible about hours.
However,
we just got reorged and the work load is not going to go down but
the
working from home and all has been killed. Argh!
Is it possible to achieve the dream of doing unix/linux work and
spending time with the family?
Thanks
