I do that. Plex will stream to anything, really, as it will show up as
a DLNA server. And they have clients for
Win/Mac/Linux/Android/iOS/Roku/some TVs/etc.

Plex will serve up video, audio, photos. And is accessible remotely,
if you configure your router correctly ...

Won't do documents, tho, I don't think.
