Re: [PLUG] Oracle Java on Debian 6

This is work related, so what I want to do is just a part of the final decision.  That said, I was trying to set up a trial of PowerFolder (open source commercialware), and am going to give ownCloud a shot too.  Thanks for the recommendation.

Have you used ownCloud?

Not really an answer to your question, but have you seen www.owncloud.org?  I don’t know all the intricacies of how the JDKs are different (if at all), but if the package I was trying to install didn’t work with OpenJDK, then I’d probably just not install it.

Subject: [PLUG] Oracle Java on Debian 6

Trying to turn up a private Dropbox-like system on Debian 6 (stable).  (Power Folder)  Oracle Java >=6 is required.  OpenJDK is said not to be compatible with Power Folder.  Has anyone had any luck with this?  I tried using the Ubuntu PPA for Java 6, and some generic Linux instructions on the Oracle site for non-RPM distros.

I'm much more adept at apt, so would prefer not to go with Suse or CentOS.
