This shouldn't be anything that The OS that Shall Not be Named did ;)

In order of most to least likeliness but still valid possibility:

- -a temp issue (time to break out the jewelers' screwdrivers and dust out
the fans, apply thermal compound to CPU)

- -a graphics bug (make sure you're updated, check logs- unfamiliar with
ubuntu-based distros but /var/log/{xdm,Xorg*,etc.} might have answers,
if so file bug report)

- -gremlins and/or demons. consult a monster hunter and/or priest.
