Unless I've missed it, nobody has mentioned Smoothwall. And that's a pity, since Smoothwall would do exactly what the OP desires, and also features automatic blacklist updating. You can also use it to configure a whitelist- a list of sites that are permitted to your children, w/no others allowed. That's how I plan to lock down my home network once I set up a Raspberry Pi as a playroom PC.
