Re: [PLUG] OT: Unlocked Cell Phones |
Casey, I will add one thing that I do not think has been mentioned. As of February of this year, carriers are required to unlock phones on request once the contract period is over. Thus, if you purchase a phone outright from any source, you should be able to unlock it. I did this when the S6 came out, I purchased it outright but through T-Mobile because I wanted the wifi calling without having to go through hoops to get the same number for outgoing and incoming calls. I have not unlocked it, but in the default T-Mobile apps folder is an app that unlocks the phone. Regards, Eric I'm planning to replace my smartphone, and I want to get one that is unlocked. AS far as I know the only potential pitfalls to purchasing my own unlocked phone are compatibility with the 2 competing network standards, and a potential lack of warranty for some unlocked phones (at least, for the android ones sold by Amazon) Are there other issues I should be aware of before spending $300 - $500 for a new phone? -- Casey Bralla Chief Nerd in Residence The NerdWorld Organisation ___________________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group -- http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion -- http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug ___________________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group -- http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion -- http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
