I contacted Dell and they immediately suggested the BIOS is "corrupted". I tried replacing the coin battery and as I did many changes and many reboots, the system became completely unbootable. I even switched the factory SSD back in and put BIOS back to UEFI and it's not booting at all now, so I guess they're right--they must be getting a lot of BIOS failures. So, I've got everything put back to the way it came from the factory and am waiting for Dell's warranty return box to arrive.
