I've had pretty good luck for quite a while. All of my Dells ran great, even old ones. Currently using an older HP Elitebook. Not for everybody because it's a huge and heavy desktop replacement. Dual booted w pre-installed Redmond Menace 7, everything worked. 

Those Thinkpads are pretty impressive for the price.
The display is tiny, but that's my problem.
