Re: [PLUG] Topic for North

AWS talk sounds good.

For kicks I just converted a 3-tier web app on Ubuntu on vSphere to run on EC2.   While the VMware
migration tools were neat, and migrated the VM while it was running in vSphere,  the results were only fair.

The migration did change the vmxnet3 NIC to another one compatible with EC2, and re-assign a local IP.  The
boot disk was re-identified to us one from EBS and it did mount ok.

The migration left the 2nd disk off-line causing the VM to fail boot, and the lack of console access meant that
fixing a simple disk mount was much more difficult.  ( The console had the option "push S to skip mounting,  but
I couldn't push the 'S' key )   You can 'see' a snapshot of the console, but you can't interact with it .

Why is no console access acceptable on EC2 ?    I guess they are assuming that a failed VM should just
be thrown away and re-created.   So  if it is a snowflake  VM,  your out of luck.

Subject: [PLUG] Topic for North

Do we have a topic for North next week?

I recently just passed the AWS CSA certification, and was thinking while it is fresh in my head, presenting about the certification, what’s on it, and how to study for it.

Any yays or nays on this topic for North next week?
