[PLUG] [plug-announce] Tue, Feb 13, 2018: PLUG North - "Intro to anykernels using rump kernels" by Charlie Li (6:30pm at CoreDial in Blue Bell) |
PLUG North will be meeting on Tuesday, February 13 at CoreDial's offices in Blue Bell, beginning at 6:30 pm. Directions to the meeting location can be found at the end of this email. This month, PLUG West welcomes back Charlie Li. He will be discussing rump kernels as a starting point for anykernels. Anykernels are a technology that allows one to write drivers that can be compiled into a monolothic kernel or run as a userspace process. Rump kernels are particular implmentations of the anykernel concept that utilize either BSD or Linux kernel code as a componentized base to handle core capabilities such as file I/O and standard protocol stacks. Custom drivers can then be written to run in userspace, increasing security. Rump kernels attempt to build on the best of monolithic and microkernel architecture, aiming for reduced size, improved code portability, increased performance, reduced frequency of patch patching, and significant reduction of attack vectors At 6:30, prior to the main meeting, we'll assemble in CoreDial's game room for shuffleboard, pool, and conversation The meeting will take place from 6:30-9pm (6:30-7 games and conversation, 7-8 General Q&A, 8-9 Presentation) at CoreDial's office space in Blue Bell, PA.
