FWIW, i recently got one of these:

and it's been doing a pretty decent job. haven't tried printing a
reference tome yet, though.


use the HP MFP m277 Postscript CUPS driver (there isn't one for the m281
specifically at this time). should work fine. you'll probably need to
manually add it in the CUPS web interface though, rather than using the
automated HPLIP utility or e.g. the GNOME printer utility.

when specifying the device path, if you're going over the network you
can use socket://IP.ADDRESS.OF.PRINTER:9100
