Re: [PLUG] Why were smbmount + smbfs deprecated?

If I recall correctly, CIFS is the newer protocol to SMB so over time, specifying "cifs" instead of "smbfs" in the Linux would have been phased in as distro kernels were upgraded.

Subject: [PLUG] Why were smbmount + smbfs deprecated?

Pardon me if this has been discussed previously- although a search through the archives didn't show it. But, why were the command smbmount and the smbfs filetype (for use in the mount command) deprecated in favour of the cifs-mount command and the cifs filetype? The replacement seem to be rather less intuitive than the former.

Thanks,
-Z
