ESC used to be where CAPS LOCK is now, which made it perfect. It's not vi's fault that the key moved.And there's an awesome Vim hack for that in your ~/.vimrc; the "smash": inoremap jk <esc>| " jk "smash" keys for ESC inoremap kj <esc>| " jk "smash" keys for ESCThere's a reason the book's subtitle is "editing at the speed of thought." :-) But there are 2 catches, you need to be a touch-typist and you need to spend some time learning the tool.
