Re: [PLUG] text editor priv escalation

But once you make those investments, you can install vimium browser plugin and
bring vim to browser navigation.  You may never need to touch your mouse again.

No, it's better than even that.  _Practical Vim: Edit Text at the Speed of Thought 2nd Edition_.  I have the first edition and it's REALLY good.

Is the book user-hostile too?

Neither vi nor Vim are user hostile, they are just selective about their friends.  :-)

In seriousness, while there is unarguably a learning curve, everything about vi is both efficient and effective, with the arguable exception of the ESC key, but that's not vi's fault.  ESC used to be where CAPS LOCK is now, which made it perfect.  It's not vi's fault that the key moved.

And there's an awesome Vim hack for that in your ~/.vimrc; the "smash":
inoremap jk <esc>|       " jk "smash" keys for ESC
inoremap kj <esc>|       " jk "smash" keys for ESC

There's a reason the book's subtitle is "editing at the speed of thought."  :-)  But there are 2 catches, you need to be a touch-typist and you need to spend some time learning the tool.

Arguably I shouldn't send this, but...
