If it's an arm Chromebook, run arch linux arm on it. I can't say Ubuntu on arm will have as pleasant of an experience. Other than that, check the hardware. I recommend a USB drive like a SanDisk Cruzer fit and dual boot the Chromebook since ChromeOS has some wonderful uses.
