I've done this with the frirst gen Samsung Chromebook and was able to partition the internal sd card to have chromeos and Ubuntu also ran Kali from an external SD card and suse from a USB and then had one more USB to use as storage between the os's. A shell script was used to force the device to reboot into whatever os I wanted. It a lot of fun and everything work, though the glidepad was a bit wonky under Ubuntu. Good experience overall.

If it's an arm Chromebook, run arch linux arm on it. I can't say Ubuntu on arm will have as pleasant of an experience. Other than that, check the hardware. I recommend a USB drive like a SanDisk Cruzer fit and dual boot the Chromebook since ChromeOS has some wonderful uses.
