[PLUG] android - it's all over but the paying

Thanks to everyone who made suggestions. It was great info - especially in my emergency.

There wasn't a great selection. The Motos seemed a good choice, as recommended here. I was eligible for a deal on the LG G7, which is what I wanted but wouldn't pay 750 for, so I struck.

Really nice screen. Blows my G4 out of the water.
Android 8.1(?) - I've never seen anything over 6.
More bizarre features than I've ever seen, most of which are already switched off :) Between carrier V and android, there's voice operated this and that, automobile mode, and fingerprint/voice/nose-hair recognition.

There's an obvious audio focus. They mention quad DACs and special speakers. It sounds good and loud too, just as a speakerphone. It's also obvious that phones are getting taller and narrower. My G4 was wider than most of the phones, if not all. It's labeled G7 ThinQ, but I wouldn't characterize it as thin. The Samsungs were thinner.

The phone satisfies my main criterion: fast.
It has lots of RAM and storage space. I have another SD card but can't get the back off, even using search results. Comparing apples to oranges, the difference between the Motos and G7 was quite noticeable. They were closer to my G4 experience. However, if I didn't get a deal, I would've bought one. The very unfortunate woman who is married to me will probably get the Z3. She liked the one she saw previously.

I'll do a writeup on the G7 elsewhere, as I go through setting it up.
It has a DIFFERENT CONNECTOR FOR CHARGING. Apparently a USB Type-C. More cables to buy - thanks. At least there's a headphone jack.

It automounted on an Xubuntu machine (mtp://), but it didn't find any files or anything at all. gmtp wouldn't connect, saying no storage found.

Because the G4 bootlooped, my data is gone. It managed to eat the backups on the 2nd card too - no idea how. It's been a difficult few days.

FYI: this may be common knowledge, but they no longer care about tethering. You can tether with a cable or wirelessly. This is also significant if you have or need a tablet: wifi-only is fine.

Thanks, all.
