Re: [PLUG] MythTV/tuner rescan needed this Friday 2019-08-02

To finally close this out, I *think* it was a lot simpler than I thought it would be. I have some confusion because I did report "problems" to SchedulesDirect, which they reported upstream and they do claim were "fixed." However, I'm not 100% sure that wasn't just for the placebo effect.

Bottom line, when I *deleted all* channels and re-scanned, it seems like it Just Worked. I did not do that originally because I'm really paranoid about channel changes because I was bitten a few times in the early days (circa 2008-2012 maybe). So probably my bad for over-thinking and over-complicating...

Well, so far, so bad, ABC and NBC are lost at the moment.  I've re-scanned in the Myth back-end and I can *tune* them, but they definitely moved and but Scheduled Direct still has the old data so the EPG wrong, which is a bit of a problem.

I have raised a support ticket there and I'm really surprised they do not have a FAQ on it.  To answer Jeff's question I did not post to the MythTV forum.  I just searched on it some more and found nothing useful.

Maybe I need to remap something, but it's not clear what or how.  I did fiddle in the channel editor, esp. with the XMLID, but so far I've failed.

Can you/have you posted in the forum you mentioned?

If there are still any other broadcast TV users, esp. for MythTV, be aware that TV frequencies have been and are changing.  Get the details at http://tvanswers.com/whenResultsZip.asp, but lots of channels around Philly are changing "June 22, 2019 - August 2, 2019" or basically this Friday.

That said, it's not 100% clear to me what the ideal way to fix this is. You'd think that would be all over, but if it is I can't find it. I think, like in this list, fewer and fewer technical folks are bothering with broadcast & MythTV anymore.

This would be PERFECT...if it actually had a definitive answer: https://forum.mythtv.org/viewtopic.php?t=3012.

This looks good, but it's not clear to me if a) this is a correct use-case or b) if it will actually work: https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Updating_Channel_Lineup, see also https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Mythfilldatabase.

Note I use schedulesdirect.org (AKA was DataDirect ages ago) for the EPG.

This Friday I'm planning to:
     1. Backup the DB
     2. mythfilldatabase --do-channel-updates --dd-grab-all
     3. systemctl restart mythtv-backend.service

And see what happens.

If that fails, then:
Applications > System > MythTV Backend Setup (will CLOSE Myth Server!)
     5. Input connections
         [ HDHOMERUN : 192.168.nn.95-0 ]
             Input name: MPEG2TS
Display name (optional): hdhr5-2us 0 LEAF
             Video source: LEAF Antenna
             Use quick tuning: Never
???            Scan for channels
???            Fetch channels from listings source
             Starting channel: 3_1
             Interactions between inputs: defaults
         [ HDHOMERUN : 192.168.nn.95-1 ]
             Same
Try to watch each channel & note results
Sort through and disable bad channels
Applications > System > MythTV Backend Setup
         6. Channel Editor

Does anyone have any more or better clues?
Thanks,
Later,
JP
