With Vulkan and so on it seems like graphics APIs are going to become less of an issue going forward. If anything I'd say NVidia has been more of a problem in this space than MS. A big advantage here is that AMD has been largely a proponent of more open APIs (in part because they're trying to sell that as an advantage of the NVidia/MS way), and AMD also tends to be more involved in the console space. That said I have no idea what APIs the new XBox consoles/etc use these days. As I understand it Vulkan also better aligns with the graphics hardware so it should be able to perform better, and I believe it is a first class citizen in all the FOSS linux drivers/etc. If I'm wrong on any of those details please let me know. I don't pretend to follow this stuff super-closely, but it is something I've tried to monitor. -- Rich ___________________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group -- http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion -- http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
