Re: [PLUG] Virtual Plug?

For what it's worth, I think I figured out how to get a headset mike working with PulseAudio, or at least for budget lappies. The "static and/or distortion thing" had messed up one teleconference too many for me, so when Audacity affirmed that symptom, it was on.

It seems that you have to run ALSAmixer, get into the "Capture" config for the relevant card (in my case, ALSAmixer identified it as "chtrt5650"), and at a minimum:

-Lower the ADC Boost to 20

-Lower the "Mono ADC" and "ADC" sliders marked "CAPTURE" to about 75

-Lower the unmarked "Mono ADC" slider to about 50

And then using pavucontrol, set PulseAudio's notion of the microphone setting ("Input Devices") to something between -40 dB and -25 dB .

Your mileage may vary.

I would've used the subject line, "Rockin' the Mike", but felt it too arcane.
