I used to use a custom wrapping of UltraVNC (with the encryption module) and their repeater but these days I mostly do remote user "helpdesk work" with https://remotedesktop.google.com/support

In particular, I needed this for Chromebook users but it works with everything since it is just a Chrome browser plugin.

Just keep in mind that with Windows any administrative task will still require the user to take action (e.g. mouse clicks or keyboard entry) but you will be able to see most of what is happening on the screen so you can guide them.

I may need to help do some administration remotely for my family to help 
keep communication going.

This does sort of cross the divide between Linux and Windows.  I 
normally run Linux and I think I recall using teamviewer in linux as 
well no matter what kind of system I was trying to help with.

I recall using TeamViewer years ago to help administrate a machine remotely.

Is this a secure and reliable way to do this?, as I have not done much 
of this kind of thing in years beyond screen shares.

Any other suggestions?
