Re: [PLUG] teamviewer for remote administration of a linux or windows machine. |
___________________________________________________________________________One way around the "Commercial use suspected" thing is to set TeamViewer to accept LAN connections exclusively and connect to that machine via IP, once you're connected via openVPN.On Mon, May 11, 2020, 12:11 AM Adam Schaible via plug <plug@lists.phillylinux.org> wrote:Last time I used TeamViewer was six, seven years ago maybe and while it seemed very polished and easy to use, after around 10 or so uses the company started shaking me down for cash for a "business class license" (LOL) so I switched to VNC Server with Remmina as my remote admin client. Due to some clunkiness and annoyance with VNC Server a couple years ago I've switched again, to xRDP, noVNC, and a little bit of x2go lately on the server side but have been sticking (mostly) with Remmina on client side.
For your use case where you are mostly logging in to other people's machines and not your own, I like Keith's suggestion to try Chrome Remote Desktop first. If that fails, you can fall back on a more complicated solution like RDP + Remmina, then as a last resort take your chances with TeamViewer and hope you can avoid your ultimate encounter with their (VERY) expensive tollbooth.
Good luck,
