Got a smallish sample you could post somewhere? I have a pretty finely tuned collection of commercial stuff I’d be happy to throw at a sample for a test.
Thanks much for the offer, but I have put this one to bed. The captures I have are good enough, and not worth more time & effort.

The only thing you can correct at this point is the processing - extracting the best still that you can from the data the camera captured.
<snip>Yup. Thanks for the details though, I knew some of that at a high level, but not the correct terms.
The camera does have a burst mode (and a sports mode), but getting it pointed and clicked fast enough to catch dolphins breaching was beyond our reflexes, and probably the camera too. Shooting video more-or-less Just Worked.
If I'd thought about it, I should have checked to see if the camera had a "raw" mode, which it probably does. That would have been good to shoot this in, assuming the memory card was big enough. I could have off-loaded to a laptop periodically though. Oh well. Maybe next time.
