If you're like me and don't like sysvinit, you can use sysvinit for nothing more than PID1 (the thing that hangs around and handles a limited range messages for PID1), and use the ultra simple and efficient runit for process supervision. This can also be done with systemd, but that's much more complicated, because systemd has its tentacles into everything, whereas used merely as PID1, sysvinit is JUST PID1, and runit is nothing but a daemon starter/supervisor.
