I like this option.  Might have to reinstall and switch to XFS.  Presently my system is on EXT4.  This was a default install as it's still in the Beta stages.

I've been using XFS for 20 years now and I have zero complaints.  It a core technology for me because it makes working with my files systems easy... without taking them down.

Another benefit of file system dumps is that they will be smaller than a raw image- smaller still if you use compression.  This would allow you to keep a couple of versions of your backups in a rotation if you choose to. I would highly recommend that.  You can easily rebuild your system from scratch with a Live OS and a dump file if your system is ever damaged beyond repair.

Hello,

I am looking for a good backup solution for my home system. I've been
running dd and making a complete backup of my system but this requires
that I stop the system and the boot from USB to get this done.

Now I'm looking for a better solution.  I prefer a bare bones backup if
at all possible but anything really close to this with minimal OS
install would be great.

Any suggestions?
