I remember visiting a Fry's in Silicon Valley about 10 years ago. They had an entire aisle of motherboards. Now this was nirvana for me, but I wondered how they could make money.
I prefer to just enjoy the bounty. There was a Radio Shack in Mesa, AZ, that was better than Disneyland. It had all the usual stuff, plus a ton of extras... kits, serious p.a., serious parts, like Micro Center on serious steroids, serious day spent in there.
Naturally it was gone the next time I visited.I have a vague memory of an RS in/near Phoenixville, many many years ago. I think the key was the stores that stocked other stuff too. These died or weren't allowed after a while.
Funny, we're geeks that look toward the future, but missed fun parts of the past. Excuse me, I have to go price vacuum tubes.
